Hays’ sponsorship of Manchester City Football Club provides an exciting perspective on the World Cup

The wait for the greatest sporting show on earth is nearly over: from June 12 2014, billions of football fans will spend a month living and breathing the beautiful game during the World Cup in Brazil.

Top-class players from the 32 teams that have qualified will strut their stuff to samba beats in stadiums throughout football’s spiritual home. As Official Recruitment Partner for Manchester City, we'll be cheering on stars Vincent Kompany (Belgium), Sergio Aguero, Pablo Zabaleta (Argentina), Alvaro Negredo, David Silva (Spain) and Edin Dzeko (Bosnia), as they compete for glory on football’s grandest stage.

Spain and Argentina are two of the four favourites for the cup, with long records of producing sublime individual talents and tight-knit, winning teams. A gifted individual can conjure moments of brilliance, but he can’t work alone. At Brazil’s last World Cup in 1970, Brazilian striker Pele may have been one of the world’s best players, but he still needed exceptional teammates to provide the perfect pass.

The English Premier League (EPL) attracts 70 per cent of the world’s two billion football followers in more than 200 countries, with China accounting for 331 million of those viewers. Manchester City alone receives 220,000 hours of global TV coverage each year.
